Fans surround “The Marilyn Denis” studios hoping to catch a glimpse of “The Hunger Games” stars Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth and Alexander Ludwig.
“It’s been interesting to see how passionate these people are,” says Hemsworth who plays Gale.
The movie adapted from a Suzanne Collins novel, is a story about a post-apocalyptic world where a boy and a girl are chosen from twelve districts to fight to the death on live television. It has gained popularity across all age groups and is being compared to such series as “Harry Potter” and “Twilight.”
“We didn’t even think it was going to be this big when we signed up,” Hemsworth explains.
Each actor had a different audition experience. Hemsworth jokes that he threatened people to get the role. Perhaps he got this idea from his two brothers, Chris Hemsworth and Luke Hemsworth, who are also in the business. He reveals that his brothers are proud of him and when one of them found out that he was eating too much, he advised him by texting him, “ It’s called the Hunger Games, Not Eating Games.”
While, Josh Hutcherson’s journey started when he moved to Los Angeles with his mother when he was only nine years old. He quickly landed acting gigs.
When it comes to his career, he says “I feel like some of my family is sort of jaded by it and the other parts of my family are extremely excited.” He explains that he could not have done it all without the support of his family and is even having a screening of the movie back home for them.
He was a big fan of the book before the movie was in the works and when it came to the audition process he thought, “If I don’t get this part; I am practically playing myself. How can I get any other part?”
The character sticks to his beliefs no matter what situation he is in. As a young actor he explains, “ You have so much opportunities to change what you believe in.” But just like Peeta he does not become a piece of somebody else’s game. In fact, Hutcherson identifies with the character so much that he unintentionally referred to himself as the character.
This could not be farther from Alexander Ludwig who plays Cato in the film. Cato is the antagonist, while Hemsworth adds, “Alex is the nicest guy in the world.”
All of the young actors bonded on set and got to work alongside A-list actors such as Stanley Tucci, Woody Harrelson, Jennifer Lawrence, Lenny Kravitz, and Donald Sutherland. Hutcherson and Harrelson got along especially well. And when it came to Stanley Tucci, Hutherson explains that “He is a full out chameleon, every role he plays, he is different. I absolutely idolize him.”
Hutcherson and Hemsworth became such close friends that they even tried to make Dubstep beats and named their “crew” as “Beatmakers.” Ludwig took the musical route as well, and during the production of the film he got to travel to Nashville. This was an exciting trip for him as he is a performer himself. He describes his sound as a bit of Asher Roth mixed with John Mayer.
Maybe one day he will be back on “The Marilyn Denis Show” singing a couple of his songs.
